Livermore Transfer Station


Livermore’s Transfer Station is available for Livermore residents only. It is located just off Route 4, at the end of the gravel road just north of R.S. Pidacks. Transfer Station hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission or use of the facility any other time, even if the gates are open, is prohibited.

Acceptable Materials

The Transfer Station accepts ordinary household rubbish (MSW) in clear plastic bags (required) and recyclables at no charge to residents. Recycling containers are provided for:

  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • No. 2 Plastics (containers with necks only)
  • Non-Corrugated Cardboard
  • Tin Cans
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Newspapers/Magazines/Junk Mail
  • Office Paper
  • Glass
  • Universal Waste (products containing mercury)

Other Acceptable Materials*

  • Metals (must be stripped of plastics or other materials)
  • Bulky Wastes (furniture, carpeting, wood, demolition materials, etc)
  • Appliances
  • Tires
  • Most types of non-automotive batteries
  • Televisions, Computers, Microwaves

*Disposal fees may apply. All loads must be checked by an attendant and paid for, if required, prior to dumping.


Wood ash, hazardous wastes, sewage and certain other materials are prohibited. Please check with an attendant for information on proper disposal of these items.


Residents may call the Transfer Station at 897-2215 with any questions about proper waste disposal.

Prohibited Waste

The Following Items May Not Be Disposed of in the Compactor:

  • Hazardous Wastes - defined by Federal and State regulations (prohibited)
  • Special Wastes - defined by Maine State Solid Waste regulations (prohibited)
  • Explosives (prohibited)
  • Pathological and Biological Wastes (prohibited)
  • Ashes (prohibited)
  • Foundry Sand (prohibited)
  • Sanitary Sewage (prohibited)
  • All Human and Significant Quantities of Animal Remains
  • Bicycles (metal pile, stripped of tires and plastics)
  • Appliances (metal pile, may be a fee)
  • Metal Shopping Carts (metal pile)
  • Cable, Metal Wire and Coils (metal pile)
  • Motor Vehicles and parts of motor vehicles (prohibited)
  • Free Liquids
  • Solid or Dissolved Materials in Domestic Sewage
  • Common Water Pollutants
  • Non-burnable Construction Material or Demolition Debris (see attendant)
  • Solid Waste having a heating value of more than 7,000 BTUs per pound
  • Wooden Pallets
  • Items larger than 3 feet in any dimension
  • Brush and Tree Stumps
  • Lead Acid Batteries (see attendant)
  • Smoke Detectors
  • Carbon Monoxide Detectors
